BA CityFlyer has launched its new London-Aberdeen service, connecting the Scottish city with London City Airport. The airline will operate one daily flight with an evening departure from London and morning return from Aberdeen.

BA CityFlyer’s London-Aberdeen takes off

British Airways regional subsidiary BA CityFlyer operated the inaugural flight of its latest route between London City Airport (LCY) and Aberdeen International Airport (ABZ) today. The new daily service will run from November 1st until January 22nd, 2023, onboard a BA CityFlyer Embraer ERJ-190.

Anne Doyere, Aviation Director at London City Airport, said,

“We are delighted BA CityFlyer is launching this route between London City Airport and Aberdeen that will provide even more choice for passengers, particularly in time for Christmas and Hogmanay. With six routes across the country, we offer the best, most comprehensive service between London and Scotland.”

As business travel rebounds, BA CityFlyer will connect Aberdeen with London’s business airport, noting its “proximity to London’s financial district, faster connections to the UK’s capital, and supporting businesses and helping drive economic growth.”

Operated by the Embraer ERJ-190

BA CityFlyer will deploy its Embraer ERJ-190 fleet on this route. The carrier’s ERJ-190s can seat up to 98 passengers in a single-class configuration, just over half the capacity parent carrier British Airways offers on its Airbus A320 London-Aberdeen flights.

Mark Beveridge, Operations Director at Aberdeen International Airport, added,

“It is great to see British Airways growing its offering and presence at Aberdeen International Airport with this new daily flight to London City. Routes like London City are important to help drive the economy connecting the business community to key markets.”

Serving a total of 23 destinations, London City Airport oversaw a strong performance in October with over 300,000 passengers handled, a 103% increase from 2021 and higher than the airport managed this August. For the summer as a whole, LCY attracted five times as many passengers compared to last year and noted strong load factors amid a resurgence in demand for business travel.
