LATAM Brasil (JJ) has announced it will launch a route from Brasília International Airport (BSB) to Lima International Airport (LIM) in Peru as the company looks to increase its international connectivity from Brazil’s capital city. This new service will be launched on March 2023 onboard its narrowbody jets.
LATAM to launch a new route
This week LATAM Brasil announced it will have daily direct flights from Brasília to Lima from March 2023. This route will last five hours and will reduce the travel time between the Brazilian and Peruvian capital cities by half. This route has not been operated since April 2020 and will be the only direct connection between these two key South American destinations.
This will be LATAM’s fourth Brazil-Peru route, which already flies directly to Lima from Guarulhos (São Paulo), Galeão (Rio de Janeiro), and Porto Alegre. From January through September 2022, LATAM has already transported from Brazil to Lima approximately 190 thousand passengers on almost 1,170 flights.

Increasing the international connectivity from Brasília
Aline Mafra, LATAM Brasil’s Director of Sales and Marketing, this route from Brasília is key. Connecting Brazil’s capital city directly to an international destination is an important step in the resumption of LATAM’s capacity.
“For us, Brasilia is an essential hub to generate connectivity. We are a company that has always believed in Brazil, and to be able to announce this investment is to strengthen our commitment to the country,” Aline added.
As of November 2022, LATAM operates 482 weekly flights from Brasília. These are all domestic routes, and the new service to Lima will be LATAM’s first international route from Brazil’s capital city. The most important route is to São Paulo Congonhas Airport (CGH), with 65 weekly flights (between seven and 11 daily). LATAM is Brasília’s main operator, followed by GOL (with 440 weekly flights) and Azul (113).
LATAM has recovered 21 of the 26 international destinations it operated prior to the pandemic from Brazil. These are Asunción, Barcelona, Bogota, Boston, Buenos Aires/Aeroparque, Buenos Aires/Ezeiza, Mexico City, Frankfurt, Lima, Lisbon, London, Madrid, Mendoza, Miami, Milan, Montevideo, New York, Orlando, Paris, Rome and Santiago.

Currently, Brasília International Airport has 30 daily international flights. That’s a low number for the airport of the capital city of a country, but in Brazil, the main international gateways are São Paulo Congonhas Airport (GRU) and Rio de Janeiro Galeão International (GIG). The international operators at Brasília are Aerolíneas Argentinas (three weekly flights from Buenos Aires), Copa Airlines (one daily flight from Panama), GOL Linhas Aéreas (15 weekly flights to Cancun –soon to disappear–, Orlando, and Miami), and TAP Air Portugal (five weekly flights from Lisbon).
Lima’s hub
This flight will connect to major LATAM hubs, and has already proven to have great potential, said LATAM.
From Lima, LATAM operates 240 weekly international operations to 27 destinations in several countries across the Americas. LATAM mainly flies to key cities such as Santiago de Chile (45 weekly flights), Bogota (18), São Paulo (18), Cancun (17), Quito (14), Miami (14), and Buenos Aires (13).
