United Airlines customers can now sign up for CLEAR through the United mobile app. This new capability is the recent result of an expanded relationship between the two companies. Both companies believe the added convenience will attract more customers to use CLEAR’s airport services. CLEAR expects that the customer increase it will receive through this program will enable it further to expand its services at airports across the US.
Seamless transition
CLEAR is a company that offers seamless transitions through airport security at select US airports. It does this by creating a biometric profile for its members. This allows passengers to access accelerated security lines as all they need to do is scan their thumbprint for the system to verify their identity. CLEAR has recently launched its services at two United Club lounges where passengers may use their biometric login to gain access.

At the airports it services, CLEAR has stationary kiosks where passengers may register, allowing them to forego the long waits at security as CLEAR members may utilize specific CLEAR member lanes. This new feature on United’s app allows passengers to enroll from their phones without visiting a kiosk. This will make enrolling much easier, especially for passengers that are in a hurry. CLEAR also has an elite service known as CLEAR Plus. United passengers looking to take advantage of the CLEAR Plus benefits will still need to visit an in-airport kiosk, although the company reassures that the sign-up process only takes a few minutes.
Optimistic partnership
United and CLEAR have both shared their excitement for the new program. CLEAR has shared that the new program will allow millions of passengers to access its services more conveniently than ever. It believes that through this partnership, it will continue to grow its expansive network making air travel safer and more convenient. The Executive Vice President of Operations at CLEAR, Kasra Moshkani, stated,
“Our mission is to make experiences safer and easier. Building on our great relationship with United will enable our 13+ million members to use CLEAR in more places. We have built our identity platform to be interoperable with a wide range of systems and experiences and believe this is a scalable model to enhance our network of use cases.”

United Airlines believes the program is another opportunity to utilize innovative technology within its operations. It anticipates that a significant portion of its passengers who do not already use CLEAR’s services will choose to do so, thanks to the convenience offered by its award-winning app. The Managing Director of Customer Strategy and Innovation at United Airlines, Jill Doyle, said,
“We’re always looking for opportunities to add new features to United’s award-winning app that make travel easier from booking to boarding and beyond. Our customers who use CLEAR are more satisfied with their airport experience, so we’re pleased to make it easier for them to learn more about the benefits CLEAR offers and take advantage of this service,”
